Meeting in Vienna Empty
PostSubject: Re: Meeting in Vienna   Meeting in Vienna EmptyMon 12 Jun - 17:19

Dear all,

this and next year the Acoustics Research Institute (ARI, http://www.kfs.oeaw.ac.at/ ) and the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d’Acoustique (LMA, http://www.lma.cnrs-mrs.fr/ ) of the CNRS Marseille have an exchange program approved with the title 'Time-Frequency Representation and Audio Perception'.

In the week of
2nd to 6th of october
some people the LMA will visit the ARI. The idea will be to have one to two days of formal talks and presentation:
* a tour through the institute showing the different groups and the existing infrastructure,
* talks representing the work of all the different groups and scientists in the ARI,
* the same for their groups of the LMA.

After that one or more day of informal discussions about special topics (possibly in smaller groups) and how we could further cooperate in the future. Possible topics include:
- Masking and Psychoacoustics
- Software and Algorithms
- Signal Processing and Synthesis
- Statistical modelling
etc....

I plan also to think of a social program for some of the related evenings to also try to get to know each other better from a personal point of view. (At least one thing seems very likely: a presentation of Austrian wine by a friend of mine, who is a wine seller.)

The groups that will visit the ARI will be the
Five people will visit us, including both group leaders.

So please reserve this week!! If you find time, maybe have a look at their homepages to think of interesting topics to discuss.

PostSubject: Re: Meeting in Vienna   Meeting in Vienna EmptyMon 21 Aug - 17:40

Hi guys!

Concerning the travel to Vienna from the 2th to the 6th October: OK for me, let's wait for Sabine's come back to book anything.

Concerning the summary of the first data: I'm on it, I hope to finish today or tomorrow in the late morning. It does not make any sense to send you Alex's report, as this report is clearly bad. Hence, Thibaut being absent, I'm writing something in English that I will both send to you all by e-mail and post in jpg format on the forum in the appropriate topic (psychoacoustics) Wink

Good. My suggestion would be to use the 2nd and 6th for travels (and / or fun) and the 3rd-5th for work.

Meeting in Vienna Empty
PostSubject: flights   Meeting in Vienna EmptyFri 25 Aug - 11:12

Hi all,
the dates proposed by Peter seem fine. I was afraid it would be more expensive if we didn't spend the week end, but Lufthansa doesn't seem to mind, at least for the time being (suppose we should make reservations quickly). The most interesting flight seems to be the Lufthansa 4369/6330 on the 2nd of october (Monday) which leaves Marseille at 19:00 and arrives Vienna at 22:30.
Peter: will it be a problem to arrive in Vienna this late in the evening? Are there buses at this time and/or do the hotels accept late arrivals?
The return is on Friday 6/10, departure 11:15 with arrival at 16:30.
I'll have to contact the PAI program quickly to try to get prepaid tickets. Sabine wrote me a message on the 25th of July telling me that she'd like to avoid spending the week end in Vienna, but did not seem to have any particular constraints exept this.
As soon as I get acceptance from all of you (Sabine, Sophie, Thibaud) concerning the flight I've described, I'll do the reservations - so be quick! bounce

I didn't want to imply that you should not stay a weekend in Vienna. Rather, it would be nice, if you could.

Public transport stops after midnight and the hotels should be okay with late arrievals, if you tell them beforehand.

BTW: I have collected a nice list of hotels for the HASSIp workshop. Have a look at http://www.kfs.oeaw.ac.at/HASSIP/hassip.htm

So you really do not want free days in the beautiful city of Vienna respectively no time to visit me in my small town or do something else in this part in Austria?

Solvi wrote:

Please also ask, until when you have to apply for the second year, I still did not find out, if it is end of august or end of september.

Except if you get a special prcie for groups (which you might look into), you could also choose different traveling dates for different people, no?

Peter

P.S:: On the 1st of october there are national election in Austria, so this might be a busy weekend here.

PostSubject: travel dates   Meeting in Vienna EmptyMon 28 Aug - 13:26

Peter is right,
it's no problem if Thibaud or somebody else wants to stay a bit longer. For Richard and I it's a bit complicated because of the kids, otherwise we would have liked to stay longer.
Anyway, it's important for me to get an answer from each of you concerning the dates so that I can reserve the plane tickets!

Concerning the PAI and your question Peter, I don't have any more details about deadlines for 2nd year applications. All they told me was that I couldn't write any report until people from marseille had traveled to Vienna, which sounds reasonable. It's a bit different for you, since you've already traveled, so I'll see if I can get some more information next time I contact them.

That's it for now - I'm waiting for your travel dates!
